Over the year's, the Flood Run® motorcycle run/ride has grown and gone thru many changes as one of the oldest and larger runs in America.

The original run went down Minnesota highway 61 to Winona to help sandbag during the 1965 floods.

Through the years, many people avoided the traffic of Hastings MN. and Red Wing MN. by riding down Wisconsin 35. Now the run has grown to a massive number of motorcycles and to alleviate the congestion going into some of the towns, we are adding the original nostalgia run down the Minnesota side.
At highway 10 you can go left into Prescott or right to highway 61 and down the nostalgia Minnesota side where you get the morning sun and discounts at the many new stops we have added. You can cross the river at Prescott, Red Wing, Wabasha or Winona. Cross the river where ever you like, jump in where ever you like, just make sure to purchase a Benefit Wristband to show your support for the Children's Hospital.

Incorporating the whole Mississippi River Valley.
It floods on both sides of the river.

The Flood Run® motorcycle run/ride has always been a charity event.

As Robbi rode south behind her son’s ambulance, a recent warning was racing through her mind: “Please understand that this might be as good as it gets.” Robbi’s son, Ian, then 7, had been struck by a car just 10 blocks from his home. He sustained massive head injuries, then spent three weeks sedated and in a coma at his local hospital.

With Ian en route to Gillette for inpatient rehabilitation, Robbi remembers her hope faltering. “I hit a moment of intense doubt,” she remembers. “I was prepared to tuck Ian into his bed and accept that he wasn’t coming back.”

“Gillette Turned On a Light”

For five days after the accident, doctors didn’t know if Ian would survive. Many feared that, even with months of rehabilitation, the outcome would be bleak. But Robbi soon learned that Ian’s Gillette team didn’t have time for bleak predictions and worst-case scenarios — they were too busy setting goals for her son.

Gillette’s optimistic approach made an impression on Robbi. “From the moment we arrived, they spoke to my son as though he could hear them,” she says. “They smiled at me. They talked about the future. It was as though I had been in a dark room with no windows, and then Gillette turned on a light and opened a door.”

Progress Is Measured by Visits From Dad

Robbi soon learned that, at Gillette, rehabilitation begins even before patients are fully conscious. Propped up in a specialized wheelchair, Ian underwent strength and flexibility exercises on his first day at Gillette. Eventually, his schedule included full days of intense therapy.

Ian’s progress defied predictions. Ian’s father and brother — who visited the hospital every weekend — were shocked by the changes they saw each week. “By the first visit, he could give his dad a ‘thumbs up,’” Robbi recalls. “By the second, he could say, ‘I love you.’ And by the third, he was taking his first steps since the accident!”

With Gillette’s Help, Ian Becomes “a Fighter”

Robbi says her most memorable moment at Gillette came during speech therapy. Hoping to encourage Ian to make sounds, Ian’s therapist gave him a toy microphone. “He held it to his mouth and said, ‘One, two,’” Robbi remembers. “I fell apart in sheer amazement.”

Despite predictions that Ian would need six months of rehabilitation, he went home from Gillette after only five weeks. Although he still faces challenges, he continues to work on skills with therapists and teachers in his community.

a fragile boy, and left a fighter”

Robbi says. “Gillette brought that out in him — in all of us."
